Spoke Safety and Bird Partner to Advance Rider Safety with First Shared Fleet Deployment of Innovative VRU2X™ Technology

Spoke Safety and Bird, a global micromobility operator, today announced a strategic partnership to explore deployment of Spoke Safety’s Vulnerable Road User to Everything (VRU2X™) technology on Bird’s shared e-scooter and e-bike fleets.

The collaboration aims to enhance safety for cyclists, scooter riders, pedestrians, and motorists by integrating Spoke Safety’s cutting-edge VRU2X™ alert systems into Bird’s operational fleet. This initiative marks a significant step toward creating smarter, safer, and more sustainable mobility solutions in U.S. cities.

“Safety is at the core of everything we do,” said Jarrett Wendt, CEO of Spoke Safety. “By partnering with Bird, we can accelerate the deployment of VRU2X technology, increasing awareness between riders and drivers and reducing risk for vulnerable road users.”

Bird is a global leader in shared electric micromobility, providing accessible, sustainable transportation options through a network of e-scooters and e-bikes that help reduce car trips, cut emissions, and improve safety in the cities it serves. The partnership with Spoke Safety will allow Bird to test, evaluate, and ultimately scale VRU2X technology through pilot deployments in select U.S. cities, beginning with Denver.

Live Demonstration in November
As part of the collaboration, Spoke Safety and Bird will host a live demonstration in November 2025 in Denver, showcasing VRU2X technology in action on Bird’s shared fleet. The demonstration will provide city officials, partners, media, and the public with a first-hand view of how the system enhances awareness between riders, cyclists, and motorists, highlighting its potential to improve urban mobility and reduce risk for all road users.

“Our mission has always been to make urban mobility safer, cleaner, and more accessible,” said John Lankford, Senior Director at Bird. “Integrating Spoke Safety’s VRU2X system into our vehicles is a natural step toward smarter micromobility, allowing us to protect riders while helping cities manage traffic and emissions.”

This partnership reflects a shared vision of leveraging technology to improve mobility ecosystems, reduce crashes, and promote sustainable transportation solutions worldwide.
